b'First ImpressionsAfter checking into our hotel, we head to the Ganga Aarti, a fire dance held at the Dashashwamedh ghat along the Ganges just after dark. This ceremony has taken place here every night for more than 100 years. The four-lane road through town is jam packed in both directions; kids dance on the concrete median. Theres no use sitting in a car when walking would be faster. We push our doors open against the crowds and slither through shoulder-to-shoulder, at one point the streets are so congested we come to a complete stop. There are all kinds of people everywhere. Our senses are heightened with unfamiliar sights, sounds and smells. Meanwhile, as the only white faces, I realize we are just as curious to them. I wonder why I seek out these kinds of experiences. I find myself at the edge of my boundaries. Its scary. Its exciting as hell.22'
