b'According to legend, the Buddha sat in meditation under a fig tree until he attained enlightenment. Today, sadhus sit under trees believed to be grown from cuttings of that sacred tree. Beside one of those trees I encounter a holy man with a long white beard sitting cross legged. He wears talikas on his forehead and upper body. By choosing the path of a sadhu, this man denounced all earthly possessions and committed his existence to attaining moksha (liberation) through meditation and contemplation. As I approach him, he is blessing two young men who, although not his biological children, he refers to as his sons. He has many such children, he explains. I tell him he is a very blessed man and he agrees. 60'
